Injury Bug Forces Withdrawal of 8 England Players
Eight English players have been pulled out of the national squad ahead of their UEFA Nations League matches against Greece and the Republic of Ireland this week.
On Monday, 11 November, the Football Association (FA) issued a statement confirming that these players are sidelined due to various injuries.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold, Levi Colwill, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Cole Palmer, Aaron Ramsdale, Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka are all unavailable,” the statement reads.
This represents the largest number of withdrawals ever recorded, surpassing the previous record of six player absences from the Three Lions last November.
The FA also revealed who would be replacing the withdrawn players:
“Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers has received his first senior call-up. Jarrod Bowen and Jarrad Branthwaite, along with the uncapped Tino Livramento and James Trafford, have also been added to [interim manager] Lee Carsley’s squad.”
This leaves Carsley with a squad of 23 players who will face Greece this Thursday, 14 November, before taking on Ireland this Sunday, 17 November.
